Where contemporary style and old-fashioned hospitality meet
An Italian architect. An Afrikaans matriarch and an energetic team of Stellenbosch locals.
These are the characters in the story of Summerwood, a stylish grand dame built in 1904, and lovingly restored to cater for the cosmopolitan tastes of the contemporary traveller.
Nestled in a quiet, leafy street in the old Stellenbosch suburb of Jonkershoek, this late-Edwardian villa was built in 1904. Run for decades by the late aunt Maria Petronella de Villiers before going through various facelifts to become what it is today – a lush haven for local and international guests with a taste for modern comfort.
The house consists of eight spacious rooms – each equipped with upmarket finishes and decorated in tasteful neutral tones. With giant indigenous tree and big swimming pool, Summerwood personifies the spirit of Stellenbosch: the seamless integration of timeless tradition and trendy taste.
A pleasant 15-minute stroll will take you to the town’s best restaurants and cafés, while the numerous concert venues and art galleries scattered around the characterful university campus just a couple of blocks away will satisfy the hunger of any culture vulture.
In short, Summerwood is the perfect spot from which to explore the soulful town of Stellenbosch and surrounding winelands. And like a good red wine that ages over time, we’re determined to keep making our guests’ experience better and better.
The spirit of Aunt Maria would not tolerate anything less…
